Prepare for a rewarding day in Materuni.
A little preparation makes it easier to enjoy the forest paths, village hospitality and changing mountain weather. Here is what to know before you set out.
Getting to Materuni
Materuni Village is in the Kilimanjaro foothills, near Moshi. Transport from Moshi is not included in the listed package prices unless specifically agreed. Confirm your pickup point and transport arrangements when booking.
What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothes for walking and shoes with a reliable grip. The waterfall path can be wet, muddy or uneven, so sandals and smooth-soled shoes are not ideal. Bring a light rain layer, sun protection and a reusable water bottle. Keep your camera or phone protected from spray and rain.
Walking and trail conditions
Expect a nature walk rather than a paved promenade. Take your time on slippery sections, follow your guide’s instructions and let your host know in advance if anyone in your group has mobility concerns or would prefer a gentler pace.
Food and dietary needs
Local meals are part of several experiences. Please tell us about allergies, dietary preferences or accessibility needs when you send your booking request.
Booking and payment
Send a booking request with your preferred date and group size. We will check arrangements and contact you with confirmation and payment instructions. Submitting a request does not take payment or guarantee a confirmed booking.
Weather and waterfall conditions
Mountain weather can change, and rain may affect the trail and waterfall conditions. Water levels, safe access and any opportunity to enter the water depend on conditions on the day. Your guide’s safety advice should always take priority.
Respectful village visits
Materuni is a living community, not a staged attraction. Be considerate around homes and farms, ask before photographing people and follow your host’s guidance when visiting community spaces. Take your litter with you and avoid disturbing plants or wildlife along the trail.
Before you travel
Confirm your pickup point, start time, group size and any dietary or accessibility needs with your host. If the weather changes or you are unsure what to bring, ask us before setting off.
